Lisbon – EuroPUR, the European industry association for manufacturers of flexible polyurethane foam blocks plans to offer associate membership to companies in areas adjacent to the continent.
The move could see more members join from North Africa, the middle east and from East of the Ural Mountains.
EuroPUR amended its constitution here on 12 June. The vote passed by an overwhelming majority.
Angela Austin of Labyrinth Research & Markets spoke later in the day. She presented her annual overview of the European Industry and said that are around 52 flexible polyurethane foam makers in North Africa. They make around 120 kT foam/year.
In addition, her consultancy estimates that there are 10 flexible foam makers in Algeria producing around 40 kT/year.
Meanwhile, in Tunisia there are nine making around 21kT/year foam; 17 in Egypt making between 35-40 kT/year and in Libya, there are around three companies intermittently producing 8-10kT/year.
