Brussels – Europur is partnering with the Indian Polyurethane Association (IPUA) to extend its CertiPur certification scheme for PU foam to India. The associations said the agreement represents an important step in advancing health and safety standards for flexible PU foams in bedding and furniture applications in India.
IPUA will collaborate with Europur to offer the certification scheme for both slabstock and moulded PU foams in India, in the same way that Europur does in Europe. The technical requirements, testing methods and laboratories will mirror those used in Europe.
CertiPur is a voluntary testing, analysis and certification programme for flexible PU foams. It specifies substances that may not be used in the production of PU foams, and sets strict limits for some components. More than 70 companies are already Certipur certified, Europur said.
“Our two associations have had a successful cooperation for many years,” said Europur president Bart ten Brink. “We are pleased to partner with IPUA to offer the CertiPur certification in India. This collaboration will enhance our industry’s high standards and provide Indian consumers with additional health and safety guarantees in PU foam-containing products.”
IPUA chairman Harneet Kochar said his organisation is committed to supporting initiatives that enhance product quality and safety in India. “Through this agreement with Europur, we aim to encourage Indian PU foam manufacturers to adopt best practices in line with advanced international certification standards,” he said.
