Madrid – Repsol has joined the ranks of polycarbonate polyol producers and has shipped the first samples from a pilot plant in Puertollano, Spain.
The company has developed its own technology independent of other firms in the market, a spokesman said. It has been trialled with a number of European foamers who “have reacted favourably,” the spokesperson added.
Repsol has worked with selected customers which have made products with the polyol. The firm added that it can be used to make products with enhanced properties in CASE applications. In adhesives, the firm said, it gives better adherence and elasticity compared with conventional materials.
Currently, the company is buying CO2 from an industrial source to feed the plant but it is examining the possibility of sourcing the gas from the integrated chemicals site on which the carbon dioxide polyols pilot plant is situated.
