Shanghai, China – Fangda Jinhua Chemical Technology is to open a new polyol line using a double metal catalyst with a 25kT/year capacity in October, the company told UTECH-polyurethane.com in an exclusive interview at the PU China exhibition held 3-5 September 2014.
The new equipment was purchased in August 2014 and will make Fangda Jinhua’s total polyols capacity 200kT/year. The company refused to disclose the price of the purchase.
“In the 1990s we licensed polyol production technology from Japan’s AGC, and was one of the first Chinese companies to introduce such technology,” said Li Ying, director of polyol sales at Fangda Jinhua. “We’ve also been developing our own technology, like what’s used in the new line, to keep up with the sector’s pace.”
Fangda Jinhua is a maker of polyether polyols and other chemicals based in Huludao, a harbour in Liaoning province in northeast China. It was first set up in 1939 and today has 5,500 employees. The company produces over 30 types of polyols, and in 2013 had RMB3bn ($488m) total revenue.
According to Li, the company mostly focuses its business in north and northeast China on account of logistics costs, but has been developing sales in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, to where shipping is convenient.
Li also states that China has excess capacity for polyols but lacks in quality. “FAW Group would be a great client for us with 70-100kT/year polyols purchase, but it currently only uses oversea suppliers. Their products do have better quality than ours in aspects like odour,” he said.
