Kitzingen, Germany - Automotive interiors supplier FS Fehrer Automotive GmbH of Kitzingen has licensed a Chinese company - Hailin Rubber & Plastic Products Co. Ltd - to make sunroof covers.
Under the contract, signed at the end of February, family-owned Hailin will produce and sell sunroof covers in China for the domestic market, under the Fehrer brand name.
Shanghai-headquartered Hailin supplies plastic parts for the automotive industry and has four plants in the region. The 20-year old company employs around 400 people and makes more than 20 million plastic parts a year, according to Feher's statement. Hailin's turnover for 2007 was about Euro 16 million ($25 million).
"With the alliance, we are emphasising our strategic orientation as international specialist for vehicle interior," said Fehrer ceo Dr Bernd Welzel, in the company statement.
This involvement in China "assures the competitiveness" of the FehrerGroup and also expands its market share, the company claims.
With this alliance, Fehrer feels it has made a significant step towards meeting the needs of automotive manufacturers for local production for future deliveries for the Chinese market, the statement pointed out.
Fehrer's portfolio ranges from PU foam seat pads, seat modules (centre armrests, side parts, headrests and back panels), roof trim and seat structure parts for convertibles/coupés to interior trim parts for sunroofs. Turnover at Fehrer reached Euro 420 million in the past year, the group said.
The group employs 3000 at 20 locations, in Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Russia, the US, Spain, Brazil and South Africa.
