A Slovenian team is using a polyurethane diaphragm plus fibre sensor in miniature pressure sensors for measuring the pressure of blood in arteries and veins. The device could replace fluid-filled catheters and pressure lines, which are vulnerable to mechanical disturbances, said an article on www.optics.org.
