Gurten, Austria - Fill Machine Engineering presented its new speedlayer 800 machine, which produces spar caps for wind turbine rotor blades fully automatically, for the first time at the Husum WindEnergy trade show.
Fill said this is the first time that the load-bearing structures for rotor blades have been produced fully automatically.
"With the introduction of automation into the manufacturing of rotor blades for wind turbines, production costs can be reduced significantly. At the same time, quality, productivity, and process reliability are increased considerably," commented Wilhelm Rupertsberger, manager of the Plastics Competence Center at Fill.
Fill said the speedlayer 800 opens up new dimensions in terms of lengths, accuracy, and speed in rotor blade production. It said that the fully automatic operation guarantees the highest levels of laying quality, and allows short cycle times, which Fill claims has not been possible to achieve with the manual labor or semi-automatic production. The Austrian company also claimed the speedlayer 800 reduces process times by 10 percent.
