Red Lion, Pennsylvania - The fire that damaged the factory of Apex Urethane Millwork in Red Lion was arson, reports local newspaper the York Daily Record.
A joint investigation by York Area Regional Police and Pennsylvania State Police ruled out other possible causes early on, leaving arson or careless smoking as the possible causes. Experiments indicated that a cigarette butt would not have caused the material to burn. said the report.
The 6 May 2008 fire caused an estimated $1.3 million in damage, announced the company's chief operating officer Michael Sampere Jr.
Apex, which claims to be the largest US urethane millwork manufacturing facility, stopped operating for four days after the fire, which started in or near a dust-collection system and forced the evacuation of all staff from the 440 000-sq.ft (40 900-sq.m) facility.
