Duisberg, Germany-FKM-Walzentechnik, a maker of industrial roll products, is building a 5000 sq.m facility in Kun Shan City, China, about 50 km west of Shanghai.
The Duisberg. Germany based roller-covering group is aiming to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the rapidly expanding Chinese market for its polyurethane-coated industrial rollers.
In the first phase of the project, FKM will build a 2000 sq.m factory and 1000 sq.m of office space in the German Industry Park in Kun Shan, by 1 Mar 2007. The second phase, to be completed in two years, will extend the factory space by 1000 sq.m.
FKM-China's new facilities will house about 25 employees and provide sales, service and technical support to the Asia Pacific market.
"It is no secret that the business opportunities in China are burgeoning," said Joachim Schifferdecker, general manager Asia for FKM-Walzentechnik, in a company statement. "We see this as an excellent opportunity to directly serve the Asian OEMs as well as the increasing number of European and American transplants that have opened manufacturing facilities in the area," Schifferdecker added.
From the new facility, FKM-China will operate a 150-inch (380-cm) press to produce its roll products as well as a roll-finishing system with CNC (computer numerical control) operation, a punch machine and a turning machine. The FKM product line includes non-woven roll covers, lightweight carbon fibre roll core technologies and rotary cast polyurethane rolls.
FKM-China is a wholly owned subsidiary of FKM-Germany, which was founded in 1967 in Duisburg. In 2000, the group also set up FKM-USA in Illinois to provide complete design and build services for the US steel and automotive market.
