Valby, Denmark -- Engineering group FLSmidth is to acquire the assets of privately owned Knelson, along with Knelson's polyurethane company Progressive Urethane Manufacturers Inc.
Knelson is a Canadian group active in the minerals industries, which fits well with FLSmidth's main activities in providing equipment and services for the minerals and cement industries.
The Canadian group makes equipment for the recovery of precious metals -- gold, platinum and silver -- as well as the enhanced gravity separation of base metals and industrial minerals. It has over 3000 installations in more than 70 countries worldwide, and claims a customer base in all the major gold, platinum and silver mining companies.
Danish group FLSmidth says the addition of the Progressive Urethane Manufacturers operation will be a valuable addition to its supply chain for wear parts.
"The acquisition of Knelson strengthens FLSmidth's offerings especially in the precious metals processing segment and supports our ability to serve all the customers' needs for process technology, process know-how and complete integrated solutions," said group ceo Jorgen Huno Rasmussen, in FLSmidth's statement.
The company was founded in 1978 and now employs around 140.
FLSmidth also wants to purchase Knelson's assets in Russia, which needs government approval.
