Grand Rapids, Michigan -- Edge Sweets (ESCO) has announced a machine upgrade that reduces a foam cutting production schedule from over three hours to 20 minutes, the company says.
Cutting flexible or rebonded polyurethane and viscoelastic materials can be done at 21 metres per minute due to advanced motors, drives and the rapid feedback controls upgrade, said the company's president and ceo Rick Hungerford.
He credited the Etch A Sketch toy as the inspiration behind the development, while adding that the machine is “hardly a toy”.
Its algorithms facilitate both “effective cutting and the optimum utilisation of raw materials”, added Hungerford.
ESCO supplies the furniture, mattress, automotive, packaging, pipe insulation, healthcare and other industries with automated CNC profilers and horizontal cutting machines.
