Wilmington, Delaware -- Four solvents from Invista's FlexiSolv range -- FlexiSolv 2100C microemulsion concentrate, and FlexiSolv DBE-4, 5 and 6 esters -- have been listed in the CleanGredients database after a third-party review by NSF International.
CleanGredients, a project of GreenBlue, is an online database of cleaning product ingredients that meet established requirements for superior environmental and human health performance.
The database helps formulators identify ingredients that have potential environmental and human health benefits and helps suppliers showcase their chemicals with these benefits
NSF International reviewed Invista's ingredient formulations for aquatic toxicity and biodegradability using criteria defined by the US EPA Design for the Environment (DfE) Program.
Adding Invista's FlexiSolv products to the database "increases the alternatives available to formulators looking for solvents that have been pre-screened against DfE criteria," said Tom Bruursema, general ganager of NSF International's Sustainability division. "Of the hundreds of solvents available in the market, only 15 solvents are currently listed in CleanGredients."
The addition of Invista's solvents significantly expands the available choices in the database, said an a 10 Sept Invista statement.
Invista says its FlexiSolv range offers solvents for applications such as coatings, inks, binder systems, adhesives, plasticisers, polyols, pigments, personal care, HI&I cleaners, paint strippers and graffiti removers.
"In a market facing increasing regulation around ingredient chemicals, Invista's FlexiSolv solvent solutions offer formulators products that balance performance, cost-effectiveness, and desirable regulatory, health and environmental attributes," said Kristina Mitchell, global business director for FlexiSolv, in the statement.
"Listing our products with CleanGredients gives our customers confidence in their choices for their formulation needs," Mitchell added.
