Houston, Texas -- Flame Seal Products Inc. says paint supplier Sherwin Williams outlets are now selling its fire protection coating for spray polyurethane foam insulation. "Flame Seal-TB", is now available to contractors at Sherwin Williams stores and dealers in almost every city in the US.
The company claims that Flame Seal-TB is "the only properly tested coating that satisfies every requirement of the International Building Code for SPF (spray polyurethane foam) insulation."
"After over two years of development and preparation, this is the last piece of the distribution puzzle that will allow the business to grow to its potential unhindered," said Michael Kiser, president of Flame Seal Products, in a company statement.
SPF is continuing to take an ever growing segment of the insulation market, replacing fibreglass and cellulose, says Flame Seal.
SPF insulation is more energy efficient than fibreglass or cellulose, and seals a structure against air leaks, as well as pests, hence SPF's growing dominance in the industry, the company adds.
According to Flame Seal, flammability is the only weakness of SPF, which is why the fire code calls for thermal barrier protection. "Flame Seal-TB solves this problem and opens all markets to SPF manufacturers," the company adds.
Sources put the value of the market for thermal barrier coatings for SPF at $50-70 million annually.
