Chelmsford, Massachusetts — FRX Polymers, which makes polymeric halogen-free flame-retardants, and Shanghai-based Yoo-Point Group will jointly develop products for low density foam and PUDs.
Under the agreement, Yoo-Point will market and sell FRX's range of Nofia FR-based emulsions to customers in China. FRX will be responsible for marketing and commercialisation outside China.
'This joint development agreement opens up many new market opportunities for Nofia flame retardants and has global implications,' Marc Lebel, FRX's CEO, said in a statement.
Low-density PU foam is the target market for the range of water-based emulsions. Typical applications include automotive headliners and PU coatings for FR clothing, rain gear and synthetic leather, Yoo-Point said.
Emulsions made from the FR have average particle size of under 400nm, and this gives consistent flame-retardant properties. Emulsions with low total VOCs and FOG to meet strict automotive interior specifications can be formulated. In addition, Yoo-Point said products made with the emulsion can meet the new Chinese mandatory standard GB/T 27630-201X.
