Alpharetta, Georgia -- POC Ventures (Protecting Our Children), in cooperation with The Hanson Group llc, has developed and patented a unique safety device to help reduce the number of concussions suffered on the football field.
The Guardian Cap (pictured) utilises energy-absorbing polyurea and polyurethane polymers along with a custom-designed pocketed cover to distribute the forces of impact. The device is used on a NOCSAE standard football helmet, and in tests has been shown to reduce the Severity Index on a Triaxial Accelometer by up to 35 percent.
This is a significant improvement in the performance of the helmets children and teenagers wear today, said a statement from the PDA - the association for high-performance elastomeric technologies.
Hanson said the Guardian has been tested at Penn State University and has been successful in on-field trials this football season.
