Frankfurt, Germany – A new hydrogenation plant at its Speyer, Germany site is set to make Haltermann Carless the world’s largest producer of cyclopentane. Its uses include as a blowing agent for polyurethane foam.
The increased capacity will be on stream in the first quarter of 2022. It will be able to process about 100kT of different hydrogenated products, including cyclopentane, in the plant each year, depending on the feedstock.
‘We are observing an extremely high demand for our blowing agent cyclopentane,’ said Rene Tessmann, the company’s industrial business unit manager. ‘We can address the capacity shortfall on the global market, steadily expand our market presence in important industries and regions, and contribute to greater sustainability together with our customers.
The company claims to be the only one in Europe capable of making n-pentane, isopentane and cyclopentane. The latter has a particularly high insulating effect in PU foams.
