Coventry, United Kingdom – Two polyurethane materials were chosen for the head of a shortlisted Bayer MaterialScience design competition entry, the Wham Polymer Hammer.
The hammer, designed by Coventry University student Martyn Billings, is non-conductive, non-sparking, shock absorbing and recyclable, he said.
Tungsten filled polyurethane and viscoelastic polyurethane were included in the six piece head. It’s design was inspired by the peacock mantis shrimp, said Billings.
The mantis shrimp has a club with which its pray to kill or disable it before feeding.
