Dusseldorf, Germany – Henkel has introduced two polyurethane adhesive systems designed for recyclable flexible packaging. These sit within the company’s RE range of adhesives and coatings.

The two products are solvent-free, two-component PU systems. They have been recognised for their recyclability by RecyClass, a cross-industry initiative to advance and track plastic packaging recycling.

The company says the two new systems have excellent adhesion to metallised substrates, and perform well at high machine speeds. Loctite Liofol LA 7818 RE / RE is designed for standard applications, such as dry food, snacks and confectionery. and Loctite Liofol LA 7102 RE / 6902 RE, meanwhile, was developed for medium performance and barrier films that can withstand pasteurisation.

The systems are considered to be fully compatible with polyethylene recycling according to RecyClass laboratory tests conducted by Aimplas in accordance with the Recyclability Evaluation Protocol for PE films,’ said Guilherme Fernandes, senior manager for polyurethane product development at Henkel Packaging Adhesives.
