Dusseldorf, Germany – Laundry and personal care products-to-reactive polyurethane systems company, Henkel reported sales in its Adhesive Technologies business unit were flat in the third quarter compared with the equivalent quarter in 2015.

Nominally, sales amounted to EUR 2.27 bn in the 2016 quarter, the firm said.

Henkel said: “Sales growth in the general industry business area was solid, with key momentum coming from our polyurethane-based two-component structural adhesives for high-performance adhesives”.

Looking geographically, Henkel added that emerging markets performed well for its adhesives segment with strong organic sales growth. Latin America showed a double-digit percentage. Eastern Europe recorded solid organic sales growth. Sales in Africa/Middle East were below the level of the prior-year quarter. Asia (excluding Japan) registered a very strong organic sales growth. In Western Europe and in the mature markets of the Asia-Pacific region, sales were below the level of the third quarter of 2015. In North America, sales remained stable, the company added.

Adjusted operating profit in adhesive Technologies increased year on year by 0.4 % to EUR 430 m. Adjusted return on sales showed a very strong increase of 0.8%, reaching a new high of 18.9%. Reported operating profit rose by 15.3 %to EUR 423m, Henkel added.
