Duesseldorf, Germany -- Henkel has introduced a new one-component adhesive, Liofol Fast One, which it says contains no free isocyanate.
The one-component laminating adhesive, which can be used for food packaging, has a fast cure, combined with high initial bond strength, Henkel said in a 6 Sept news release.
The Duesseldorf-headquartered company will present the product at the 7th ICE Europe event for paper, film and foil converting, to be held 8-10 Nov 2011 in Munich, Germany.
"Our goal was to develop an adhesive that would enable just-in-time manufacturing of flexible packages," said Georg Kinzelmann, head of R&D for polyurethanes at Henkel.
He noted that curing is reduced to just a few days, which he said was much lower than the two-week curing time associated with a conventional adhesive.
Henkel said that, as the adhesive is "toxicologically safe" in terms of the EU R40 guidelines, no R40 labelling is necessary.
