Orangeburg, South Carolina - Gulbrandsen Chemicals Inc. is to increase the price of its T-Cat tin catalysts and CP-2 flame retardant for deliveries made on or after 1 June 2008, or as contracts permit.
The US additives maker said it will raise prices for T-Cat stannous octoate by 20 percent. For stannous octoate dilutions, along with T-Cat 120, the company said it will raise prices in proportion to their respective tin metal concentrations.
Meanwhile it will raise the price for CP-2 flame retardant by 5 percent.
Explaining that the increase in stannous octoate is being driven primarily by the rising cost of raw materials, Gulbrandsen said that the price of tin metal on the London Metal Exchange (LME) "soared by 50 percent in 2008 alone."
Both T-Cat stannous octoate and CP-2 flame retardants are being affected by the rising cost of energy and transport, the company added.
T-Cat catalysts and CP-2 flame retardants are used in a wide range of flexible polyurethane foams for both residential and automotive seating and for bedding applications. LW
