Hofmann will assume responsibility for the new Construction Chemicals division, subject to regulatory approval of BASF's acquisition of Degussa's construction chemicals business, BASF announced. BASF and Degussa agreed the transaction 1 March 2006. The deal is expected to close in mid-2006.
From 2001 to 2003, Hofmann was head of the Construction Chemicals division at Degussa and then led Degussa's Fine & Industrial Chemicals division, until he was appointed to the board at the beginning of 2006.
"Bernhard Hofmann has outstanding knowledge of the construction chemicals market. Under his leadership, we will successfully develop and expand the business we have acquired from Degussa," said Dr Andreas Kreimeyer, in BASF's statement.
