Chongqing, China – Huafon Chemical announced on 25 January that it is to add 300kT/year differentiated PU elastane capacity at its Chongqing site.
Located in the city’s Baitao Chemical Park, the project has three phases. There will be 50kT/year designed capacity in phase one, 150kT/year in phase two and 100kT/year in phase three. Each phase will take two years to complete.
Investment in the three phasis is planned to be CNY4.36bn ($675m), and is expected to generate CNY8.8bn annual sales, the company said.
Processes such as large-volume continuous polymerisation and dry spinning will be adopted in the production, it said. All production lines will be equipped with automated, smart machinery using multi-end spinning.
Huafon has been revving up its differentiated PU elastane capacity. Operations at its 100kT/year facility at the Chongqing site since it started in 2019.
The company currently has 200kT/year designed capacity for overall PU elastane. It is the largest maker of this material in China.
