Wenzhou, Zhejiang – Huafon Thermoplastic Polyurethane held a trial production run at its 30kT/year TPU expansion project here in February.
The project broke ground in 2016. It is waiting for regulatory approval before full operation starts, the company told UTECH-polyurethane.com.
It is located at the city’s Rui’an Economic Zone. This is where the TPU maker’s parent company, chemical conglomerate Huafon Group has its headquarters.
The company invested CNY 59m ($9m) and has built six production lines, each with 5kT/year capacity. This takes total capacity at the location to 42kT/year.
The project will create 48 new jobs with employees working on three shifts when in it is in full operation.
Huafon Thermoplastic Polyurethane also has a second plant in Wenzhou’s Xincheng Industrial Zone. This plant has 28kT/year TPU capacity and 2kT/year hot melt adhesive capacity. The company is also expanding other polyurethane production in Wenzhou.
The company produces over 100 TPU products with Hardness ranging from 60 Shore A to 70 Shore D. Its products are used in footwear, electronics, automotive parts and membranes. In 2016, the TPU business recorded CNY 570m revenue.
The same year Huafon Group saw its revenue jump 17% from 2015 to CNY 1.5bn. Net profit went up by 17% to CNY 62m.
