The Woodlands, Texas - Rubicon, Huntsman Corp.'s joint venture with Chemtura Corp., has earned the Louisiana Chemical Association's (LCA) "Best in Louisiana" distinction for its facility in Geismar, Louisiana.
The chemical production plant was recognised for its commitment to superior safety, environmental performance and community involvement, Huntsman said in a 2 Dec news release.
Rubicon was designated "Best in Louisiana" among its LCA peers (facilities with more than 400 employees) that competed in this year's Serious About Fostering Excellence (SAFE) program.
The SAFE awards are based on safety and environmental compliance information submitted to state and federal regulatory agencies, as well as facilities' abilities to demonstrate significant involvement in their surrounding communities, according to the statement.
"Everyone at the Geismar facility is honoured and pleased to be selected for this award," said Mark Dearman, Rubicon general manager and director of operations, Huntsman Polyurethanes Americas. "We place the highest importance on safety, environmental responsibility and community engagement, and we are committed to maintaining a culture of environmental, health, and safety excellence for many years to come."
The Huntsman assets located at the Geismar site, include methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and polyols units for the Americas Polyurethanes Division.
The plant spends more than $40 million annually on environmental, health and safety compliance and environmental improvement performance, Huntsman said.
