The process takes scrap PET, and converts it into the polyols. These are then used in PIR and rigid PU applications, spray foam and pour-in-place applications such as cold chain units, refrigerators and freezers.
Speaking at the opening, CEO Peter Huntsman said: 'By recycling the equivalent of nearly half a billion PET bottles… we are creating they building blocks that transform plastic waste int something of real value.'
Tony Hankins, Huntsman’s president of polyurethanes and CEO for the Asia Pacific region said: 'Taiwan is a critically important base for the achievement of our strategic objectives in the region. These are focus on moving downstream and creating more differentiated solutions for our customers.'
The company already has Terol production sites in Houston, Texas and Boisbriand, near Montreal, Quebec.
