Everberg, Belgium -- The Performance Products division of Huntsman Corp. today announced plans to expand its capacity for speciality amines used as polyurethane catalysts at its manufacturing facilities in Petfurdo, Hungary and in Barcelona, Spain.

The expansions extend the Huntsman manufacturing portfolio, building on the company's integrated amines capability, and also increase existing polyurethane catalyst production capacity by 25 percent. Huntsman did not reveal its investment in the expansion.

In the last five years Huntsman - which says it is "the world's leading low-emission and 1K sealant catalyst producer" - has seen interest in its Jeffcat amine catalysts accelerate across the globe.

In a statement, Stu Monteith, president of Huntsman's Performance Products division said: "The capacity expansion leverages our strong manufacturing and technology base and enhances what is already the widest in-house manufacturing capability across the industry.

"We have consistently improved capability and extended the product range manufactured at our Petfurdo location over the last 10 years. However, in the last few years demand has begun to fill production capabilities across our two main production sites in Petfurdo and Conroe, Texas. The new capacity and addition of a third manufacturing site [in Spain] shows the commitment that we will build, ahead of the demand curve, to match our customers' growth."

John Smyth, vice president, Performance Products, Additives and Home & Personal Care, said: "We see global demand in the low emission and 1K sealant markets continuing to grow and this expansion plan satisfies those needs and ensures we meet the burgeoning demand in the rapidly growing rigid spray insulation market."
