The Woodlands, Texas -- Huntsman Corp. has launched a bio-based polyol derived from vegetable oil for the polyurethanes industry, a recent company statement said.
JEFFADD B650 bio-based polyol is designed for PU spray foam, rigid foam, coatings and adhesives and sealants markets, as well as hybrid polyureas, Huntsman said.
"This new product addresses the need for a functional, cost-effective and renewable polyol for water-blown spray foam and other polyurethane applications and it gives formulators the opportunity to produce value-added products with renewable content," said Stu Monteith, vice president, Specialties for Huntsman's Performance Products division.
According to Huntsman, its JEFFADD polyol differs from other renewable polyols by being miscible with water, as well as other commonly used polyols, making it ideal for water-blown and water-based systems. In addition, the company said, it is free from odour and acidity, has a reactivity comparable to that of Mannich polyols and can improve product properties such as abrasion resistance in coatings applications.
