Everberg, Belgium – Huntsman has developed a new fast-curing polyurethane resin system for the production of modelling, tooling and rapid prototyping boards.
The company is targeting the aerospace, automotive, marine and shipbuilding industries for what it describes “an effective, high temperature stable polyurethane.”
With a glass transition temperature of 200oC and higher, the new generation Vitrox EST system offers product designers, tooling manufacturers and mould-makers a viable polyurethane alternative to other thermoset-based tooling products, said a company press release.
Huntsman's polyurethanes technical manager Wim Gilis said: “Until now, polyurethanes couldn’t match the high-temperature performance offered by other thermosets, but the development of this system offers tooling manufacturers an attractive alternative with all the benefits of polyurethanes chemistry.”
Gilis will give a presentation on the technology at UTECH 2015 - the PU exhibition and conference organised by Urethanes Technology International’s publisher Crain Communications Ltd.
The presentation will be delivered during the innovation session in the Florin Room at 14:15 on Tuesday 14 April.
