Shanghai, China — Huntsman inaugurated its recently-completed thermoplastic polyurethane plant and started operations in Shanghai Jinshan Industrial Zone II in late February , according to local reports.
The reports said Huntsman invested $20m (EUR14.5m) in the plant, which covers 21,000m². This is Huntsman's third plant location for TPU and its portfolio includes plants in Germany and the US. Huntsman sees Chinese demand for TPUs growing rapidly, with markets in consumer and industrial applications such as sports footwear, apparel and automotive interiors.
Tony Hankins, Asia Pacific CEO and president of Global Polyurethane Division, said: "China has become the largest market for TPU . This new production facility will greatly enhance our ability to supply so that we can provide a faster, more efficient service to customers in the region.
“This new investment is a testament to Huntsman 's long-term commitment to local customers and will further promote the rapid growth of the region's market."
Huntsman opened a systems house in Shanghai in September 2013.
