Huntsman praised for LCA transparency, awarded by Toyota Boshoku

Everberg, Belgium – Materials company Huntsman has announced that its automotive team has been given a special supplier award by Toyota Boshoku Europe (TBEU), the European operations of the Japanese automotive component manufacturer. The accolade acknowledges the valuable contribution made by Huntsman's PU team in supporting TBEU's sustainability enhancement initiatives.

During its annual supplier day event, TBEU presented the award to Huntsman, commending its proactive approach and commitment to providing transparency regarding PU sustainability strategy. This commendation recognises Huntsman’s provision of comprehensive product life cycle assessments (LCAs) and well-defined, practical timelines for the development of innovative, eco-friendly products aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the automotive manufacturing sector.

Over the past two decades, Huntsman has closely collaborated with TBEU, supplying various PU systems for different vehicle models.

Timothe Rondot, advanced development engineer at TBEU, said: “Huntsman is so far the only chemical supplier we work with that is open about sharing its current LCA data with such precision and transparency thus allowing TBEU to fully utilise and exploit this data. Crucially Huntsman also comments on what it believes is realistic to achieve with a solid delivery timeline. As a component manufacturer, which is actively trying to reduce its carbon footprint, that’s refreshing and invaluable, in equal measure, and we are grateful for their team’s transparency.” 

Huntsman was honoured with this award during the TBEU Annual Suppliers Meeting held in Belgium in June, which saw participation from over 50 companies. This recent recognition adds to a series of supplier awards that TBEU has bestowed upon Huntsman in recent years.

In 2018, Huntsman earned a Bronze Supplier Award from TBEU for its role in cost reduction and enhancing industry competitiveness. This was achieved through the implementation of a training program for TBEU’s production team. In both 2021 and 2022, Huntsman received the Best Performing Supplier Award for its outstanding performance, solidifying its position as one of the most dedicated and dependable companies collaborating with the automotive interior parts manufacturer.
