Everberg, Belgium -- Huntsman has developed a polyurethane sole for Dutch Gerla Product’s 21st Century clog.
The polyether-based PU material is injected moulded then attached to the wooden part of the shoe without the use of adhesives.
Gerla md Joost Pijnenburg said: “The challenge was to introduce innovative new materials while upholding the shoe’s heritage and tradition.”
The new soling material is low density and a has a high level of robustness during manufacture, said a Huntsman press release.
Gerla, which produces 600 pairs of clogs a day, is based in Alphen, the Netherlands. The company also produces a range of work footwear.
