Tianjin, China – Huntsman's latest systems house started up on 11 June after completing a trial run.
Huntsman starts up Tianjin systems house
'The Tianjin systems house is Huntsman Group’s first plant in northern China and holds strategic importance for its commitment in China,' said Kenny Pan, President of Huntsman Polyurethanes in APAC.
The new plant, managed by Huntsman Composite Materials (Tianjin), is located at the city’s Nangang Industrial Zone. Huntsman invested CNY230m ($32.5m) in the facility, which will have 70kT/year capacity when in full operation.
Contractors broke ground in October 2018 and the plant was originally scheduled to come on stream in early 2020.
Huntsman said output from the site will include formulations based around its Terol polyester polyols. Formulations with pentane as blowing agent will also feature.
The company said that Terol polyols contain 60% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Huntsman said it consumes 1.44bn 500ml PET plastic bottles globally each year to make the material.
The company has developed 20 polyols under the label, seven of which have received Underwriters Laboratories' Environment certification.
