The Woodlands, Texas - Thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) from Huntsman offer many possibilities for meeting the manufacturing challenges of a fast-changing world, and at Booth 37013 at this year's NPE exhibition, representatives from the company's TPU business will showcase an interesting combination of new and established products.
NPE is being held 1-5 April at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida.
Well known for their versatility, Huntsman's wide range of speciality TPU resins can improve the production and enrich the performance of products including screens, seals, films and footwear. At NPE, Huntsman will emphasise core products that can help shape and influence items used around the world, everyday, including:
- Avalon AHT - a new line of transparent aromatic TPUs with enhanced UV resistance, for injection moulding applications. Typically used in the footwear industry, Avalon TPUs give manufacturers "the freedom to make tough, yet comfortable shoes and boots in a variety of designs and colours, Huntsman claims. Products from the Avalon ABR range are abrasion resistant, designed specifically for footwear applications, such as cleats, soccer plates and top pieces.
- Huntsman will also launch Irogran CA117-200 at NPE 2012. This new TPU resin, for use in extruded adhesive films, is easy to process, has a low melting point, crystallises quickly and has good green strength.
Other products featured will include:
- Irogran A 95 BK 4922 - a new high-performance polycarbonate-based TPU for injection moulding, with a good balance between oil and hydrolysis resistance at high temperatures.
- Irogran A 92 K 5031 DP - a TPU with a broader operating temperature range for industrial applications where compromise is not an option. Formulated with the needs of modern manufacturing in mind, this grade can be extruded or injection moulded to create components for heavy-duty engineering equipment, engines and hydraulic systems, where working conditions may reach up to 130°c or drop as low as -40°C.
- Irogran A 95 K 4977 - an easy to process polycaprolactone-based TPU that offers an excellent compression set at elevated temperatures and therefore performs well in hydraulic seal applications.
- and Krystalgran resins - a range of aliphatic solutions used to create protective films for non-optical applications, first developed for automotive uses. When made into a transparent, UV-resistant sheet, they can be applied to the bodywork of a car to help protect it from chips and scratches caused by stones, gravel and grit. Now, the technology is also finding application in the electronics sector, where it has come to the attention of manufacturers who want to safeguard the screens of portable consumer devices, such as tablet personal computers and smart phones.
