By Patrick Raleigh UT On-line/news editor Midland, Michigan-Hurricane Ivan has prompted Dow Chemical Co. to declare force majeure for propylene oxide and propylene glycol products from its Plaquemine, Louisiana, site.Transport of product from Plaquemine was completely halted by preparations for the hurricane, according to Antulio Borneo, commercial director, Dow Oxides & Glycols, in a 16 Sept press statement. "Rail, truck and marine carriers suspended their activities and shut down multiple yards, interchanges and routes to avoid traffic congestion and storm damage, explained Borneo, adding "we will work to return to normal activities as soon as it is safe and responsible to do so." As well as PO and PG, the products affected by the force majeure measure include dipropylene glycol, and tripropylene glycol grades."
