Tel-Aviv, Israel - Israel Chemicals Ltd. (ICL has purchased Supresta llc, a producer of phosphorous-based flame retardants, for $352 million.Supresta will become part of the ICL Industrial Products division, giving the division annual revenues of around $1100 million, said ICL's 25 June statement.According to ICL, the acquisition will diversify its 'Industrial Products' portfolio of flame-retardants, enabling it to "initiate sales to the polyurethane foam and engineering plastics markets, while enhancing its geographical marketing reach."We are excited by the growth prospects of the Supresta business itself and by the significant synergistic benefits that it offers ICL Industrial Products," said Yossi Shahar, president and ceo of ICL Industrial Products, in the statement."By joining forces, we will be creating an entity with a leading position in the global flame retardant fields," he added.US-based Supresta employs more than 300 people in its two plants, in Germany and the US, and produces over 80 phosphorous-retardants for polyurethane foam. ICL industrial products produces a third of the world's elemental bromine and is a leading provider of bromine-based downstream products such as flame retardants, clear brines for the oil and gas exploration industries and water treatment biocides.Its primary markets are the US, China, Japan and Taiwan and its revenues for 2006 were $838 million, with operating income of $208.9 million. ss"
