Tel Aviv, Israel – ICL has launched a new reactive phosphorus flame retardant for rigid polyurethane insulation products. VeriQuel R100 has applications in products such as sheathing, in-wall and PIR roofing.
The company said it invested more than $2m in the development of the product. It claims it is a more sustainable alternative to traditional additive flame retardants.
As a reactive product, VeriQuel R100 creates build-in flame retardancy, forming chemical bonds with the polymer matrix. This ensures long-lasting performance and stability, and also prevents the product from migrating, meeting the increasingly strict global regulations for environmental safety.
It is fully compatible with current manufacturing processes, the company said, giving improved sustainability and compliance without adding to formulation costs. Four US commercial roofing companies are already using the new FR in roofing products, it said, and a further six in the US and Europe are in the development phase.
“VeriQuel R100 has been formulated to meet fire safety standards, but it is also valued for its sustainability properties,” said Yaniv Kabalek, president of ICL’s industrial products division. “As the industry moves towards greener building materials, and demand for sustainable building solutions increases, VeriQuel R100 will be able to provide manufacturers with a high-performance, environmentally responsible solution without compromising on fire safety.”
