Helsinki - The European Union's Reach regulation (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals, will require authorisation of materials classified as 'substances of very high concern' (SVHC).
The first list of 16 potential candidates for inclusion in this category has just been published by the European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki. The first candidate list may be published in the next few months, ECHA said.
ECHA is inviting interested parties to comment on these potential SVHCs, which have been put forward for consideration by competent authorities in various member states.
Of the 16 substances, France has suggested five, Norway three, Germany, Austria and Sweden two each, while the UK and the Netherlands have suggested one each.
Substances may be removed and others added, ECHA says.
