New Delhi — The Indian Polyurethane Association (IPUA) has announced a design competition to popularise the use of polyurethane in India.
‘We are looking for innovation and ideas in PU targeting industry besides major design and technology institutes,’ said Murali Mohan, Secretary, Indian Polyurethane Association. ‘We have called for entries from some of the top institutes of the country like Institute of Industrial Design, Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi & Mumbai) and the National Institute of Design.’
A five-judge panel will announce the best innovation from entries received by 31st January. The INR 100,000 ($ 1600) prize will be awarded to an original design idea for a PU application in Fun & Amusement.
PU use in India is limited. ‘We hardly get trained PU people for the industry and this competition is one of the ways to increase awareness among the student community. We have received a few interesting ideas,’ Mohan continued.
The IPUA has yet to assess the number of entries which have been received. It is considering whether to hold the event annually, or once every two years.
India’s PU industry is valued at around $2 bn and consumes 600 kT/year. It is growing at 8-9%/year, according to the IPUA.
