ISOPA has celebrated its 20-year anniversary as the trade association representing European producers of MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate), TDI (toluene diisocyanate) and associated polyols.
The association, which has been around since 1987, held a road show and a celebratory dinner for guests such as past presidents and heads of downstream industry organisations, 29 Nov, to mark two decades of achievements.
Originally set up in Europe in response to the CFC (chlorofluorocarbon) blowing agent issue, the organisation now represents the industry with "one voice" on a wide range of safety, health and environment (SHE) issues.
According to a 29 Nov statement, ISOPA is now engaged in preparing for REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) and is working on more than 30 dossiers covering MDIs, TDIs and polyols, said the statement.
"ISOPA is an active, focused and forward-looking organisation," said Mike Jeffs, ISOPA secretary general, in the statement.
"Polyurethanes have such outstanding qualities that I believe they have the brightest future over the next two decades," he added.
Bayer MaterialScience, Dow, BASF Elastogran, Huntsman, Lyondell, Repsol and Shell are all members of ISOPA. (ss)
