The Woodlands, Texas -- What's the next step when you drop out of the 2012 Presidential race? How about rejoining the family business?
Huntsman Corp. today announced that Jon Huntsman Jr was named to the company's board of directors, effective 1 Feb.
The company noted that Huntsman, age 51, was recently a candidate for the Republican nomination for the US Presidency. He suspended his campaign less than a month ago.
His previous experience includes two terms as Governor of Utah, plus stints as US Ambassador to China, US Ambassador to Singapore, and Deputy US Trade Representative and Ambassador.
Huntsman's term will end at the company's 2013 Annual Meeting of Stockholders. The Huntsman board now has 10 directors.
The company's news release highlighted Huntsman's interest and involvement in Asia.
"Jon is regarded with dignity and respect throughout the world," his father, company founder Jon Huntsman Sr, said in a news release. "His international and diplomatic experience is well known and admired. He has previously served as vice chairman of our Huntsman businesses and thus will contribute enormously as a member of our board of directors."
Huntsman Sr is currently the company's executive chairman, while brother Peter is chief executive officer.
