Istanbul – Turkish PU systems house Kimpur has initiated manufacturing activities at its new production facility in Düzce, a company representative told Urethanes Technology International.
“We aim to reach an annual capacity of [65kT], including [50kT] of polyurethane systems,” the spokesperson said.
In addition to this, Kimpur’s new factory in Türkiye’s north-western region accommodates “a recycling facility for polyester polyol synthesised from PET waste as part of the [5kT] green product range, and an additional [10kT] capacity for EVA granule raw material”.
The company's objective is to reach these manufacturing capacities by 2024, Kimpur said in a statement.
The Turkish company said that the expansion project in the Gümüşova Organised Industrial Zone (OSB) will allow it to strengthen its position in the industry by establishing a new production facility with modern equipment. The total cost of the investment is approximately TRY400m (€13.5m). The infrastructure work enabling the production of about 30kT of polyurethane systems in the first phase has been completed, and production has started at the facility.
The statement continued: “Due to the inability of the existing production facility in Gebze to meet growth plans, Kimpur decided to establish its second production facility in Türkiye in Düzce.”
In addition to this, Kimpur is making efforts to cut energy costs in the production process with its investments in solar energy systems.
Because of this, the Turkish business hopes to meet about 55% “of the total electricity consumption [of its production facilities] and reduce carbon dioxide emissions”.
In the three years preceding the new plant going online, the company managed to raise its production capacities by 98% from 65kT to 129kT. The PU systems specialist exported its products to more than 50 countries in 2022. As part of its international expansion plans, Kimpur is also investing in its production capacities in Latvia.
The Istanbul-based manufacturer supplies its output to a wide range of sectors. Its portfolio consists of products for the footwear industry, flexible foams, and rigid foams, among others.
Since April 2022, the Turkish company has been listed on the Borsa Istanbul stock exchange.
