Cavan, Ireland-A new £12-million City Academy in Nottingham, UK, uses tapered rigid urethane insulation from Kingspan Insulation. In such uses, tapered insulation "provides a light-weight, practical and cost effective alternative to timber firings or screed to falls for draining a roof of rainwater," said a Kingspan statement.
The Djanolgy City Academy, designed by Foster and Partners, replaces Djanogly City Technology College and Forest School: it specialises in Information and Communication Technologies for students aged 11-14.
A total of 5000 sq.m of Kingspan's Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM was installed by roofing specialists Advanced Roofing. "Having already used Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM on numerous projects, we had no doubt that it was the ideal choice for this project due to the quality and reliability of the product and the impressive U-values it achieves," said Advanced Roofing's David Hartshorn, in a Kingspan statement.
Thermataper is designed for use under single-ply waterproofing, giving low heat loss, and preventing the build-up of rainwater. If rainwater collects on a flat roof, it can seriously reduce the roof's life by subjecting the membrane to thermal stress, alkali formation and mould growth.
