Cavan, Ireland - The Kingspan Insulated Panels unit of Kingspan Group plc has clinched an important contract with the New Doha International Airport in the United Arab Emirates.
The firm is set to supply more than 35 000 m2 of architectural wall panels for the building envelope and sliding doors of the maintenance hangar at the airport. These provide high thermal insulation which helps cut energy and running costs, says a 20 Sept announcement from Kingspan.
Kingspan Insulated Panels, won the contract from Rigidal Industries which has supplied several million square metres of aluminium and steel cladding to the region over the past 30 years. The win is a feather in the cap for Kingspan, which set up a base in Dubai in April this year, the announcement added.
General manager for the region, Ali El Zein, is delighted with the positive response locally to the Kingspan products: "This is a fantastic contract win for Kingspan and confirms that the company's decision to expand into the Middle East this year was a wise one. We look forward to working on the airport project and our team is already on the ground ready to go."
* Phase 3 of the New Doha airport is now under way. The work includes building a terminal extension which will be a five-level structure with a total floor area of 127,000m2. It will connect to the airport's main passenger terminal.
* Belgian firm Six Construct and the local Midmac Contracting Company are the main contractors for the project.
