By Liz White, UT staffMunich, Germany- Krauss-Maffei Kunststofftechnik GmbH is adding "mouldmaking muscle to its extensive know-how in process engineering in order to step into the ring as a systems supplier," in reaction process machinery. The group has revealed further details of its plans, announced at the Fakuma show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, in late October. It said the the new mouldmaking business will concentrate initially on automotive customers, but then broaden its focus to supply customers in other industries. When the expansion is complete, the division will include an advanced mouldmaking operation with presses and CNC machining systems. Krauss-Maffei said it will then be "in a strong position to offer the complete spectrum of processing machinery, tooling and services for polyurethane processors-from project planning through to commissioning, and from mixing heads to production plant and moulds." Its new Tooling Technologies business unit will have two competence centres, both in Germany. In Viersen, a production plant specialising in pressing, punching and flexible machining techniques will start operating in December 2005. A second centre in Harderberg, near Osnabrück, will be a competence centre for foam moulds and should start production in October 2005. Each plant will employ about 120 people, and have a lab with resources to support customer projects from the start right through to series production. In recent years, Reaction Process Machinery has been Krauss-Maffei's fastest growing business, increasing sales in fiscal 2003/2004 by 16.6 percent to Euro 72.2 million and in fiscal 2004/2005 by more than 30 percent to over Euro 95 million. In future, Krauss-Maffei said, its Reaction Process Machinery Division (Polyurethane Technologies) will be active in three areas: * mixing heads and metering machines (Machine and System Technologies); * mouldmaking, including pressing, punching, CNC machining, (Tooling Technologies): and * machines and systems for insulating foams (Insulation Technologies)."
