Parsdorf, Germany – KraussMaffei’s new ColorForm mixhead is designed to give efficient, sustainable production with easy colour changes. It is based on a multi-component injection moulding process.
To achieve scratch-resistant surfaces, the thermoplastic base carrier is flooded with polyurethane or polyurea as a surface material in the second cycle after the initial injection moulding process. The surface material is applied using the RimStar Flex ColorForm reaction machine in combination with the mixhead that feeds materials directly into the cavity. The new mixhead’s colour nozzle enables a drag-free colour change to be made.
The mixhead’s compact design enables it to be integrated into the mould, and installed in easily accessible positions in the clamping area of the injection moulding machine. The central media supply ensures temperature control and mixing quality.
KM said the ColorForm mixheads can give high-quality surfaces for the automotive industry, in both interior and exterior applications. The surfaces are transparent, robust and have high strength, and are also self-healing. Its ability to produce both substrates and surfaces in a single work step is both efficiency and sustainable, the company said.
