Munich, Germany - KraussMaffei is to set up a new development laboratory for reaction process machinery and systems at its main plant in Munich-Allach, which will open in December 2007.This 600-sq.m space will be an "important additional resource especially for joint developments in partnership with raw materials suppliers, plastics processors and mouldmakers," said the company, adding that "the emergence of new and innovative PU processes continues to boost the competitive advantage of this material in many markets." The company said the new facility will "speed the pace of innovation," with trials to look at all aspects of process development, from cost-effectiveness to product design and engineering. The new unit will have a bigger machine park than the existing lab, said the group, including "highly flexible systems that can be used to produce any type of multi-layer polyurethane composite product." KraussMaffei said its customers will also benefit from the close interaction between its plants in Munich, Harderberg and Viersen in Germany and Detroit. At Viersen, KraussMaffei builds presses, punch&die systems and flexible routers for post-processing of PU parts, while Harderberg makes foam moulds for automotive interior components."
