Yeosu-City, Korea - Mitsui Chemicals Polyurethanes Inc. and Korea Kumho Petrochemicals Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Kumho Asiana Group, have agreed to double the capacity of the MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) plant operated by their jointly owned Kumho Mitsui Chemicals Inc. subsidiary.
The unit is expected on stream by June 2009 and will bring total capacity of the Yeosu plant to 130 kilotonnes per year, according to a 13 April announcement from Mitsui Chemicals.
This expansion "will strengthen KMCI's infrastructure, enabling more stable supply to customers in Korea," the announcement said, adding that it will give the company "the best opportunity to consolidate its business stronghold in the Korean MDI market."
Kumho Mitsui Chemicals employs 144 and is headed by Wan Jae Kim, president, with Tadao Nakagawa as executive vice president. drr"
