Cologne, Germany – Lanxess is to start supplying its Mesamoll plasticiser with a significantly reduced carbon footprint. Its applications include polyurethane adhesives and sealants.

From 1 October 2023, more than 30% of the input materials for the phthalate-free plasticiser will come from fully sustainable sources. This will cut its product carbon footprint by about a fifth. As it is calculated via the mass balance approach by the raw material supplier, there is no impact on its quality or performance.

“The switch to a more sustainable raw material base in the production of Mesamoll is a testament to Lanxess’s commitment to sustainability,” said Karsten Job, head of the company’s polymer additives business. “[We are] helping our customers to reduce their carbon footprint while meeting the demands of our customers for phthalate-free, reliable and performing solutions.”

The company added that it is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the plasticiser further in the future.
