Latina, Italy – Lanxess plans to open a new application development and technical service lab for polyurethane dispersions in Italy.
Lanxess to strengthen PUD R&D
It will operate as a stand-alone facility from the third quarter of 2018. It will focus on developments in leather and textile finishing, plastic, glass and metal coatings, as well as sizing for glass fibres.
Markus Eckert, head of Lanxess' urethane systems business unit, said that there is 'growing demand for VOC free and lower carbon-footprint materials'.
He added that there is also 'regulatory pressure on restricted chemicals which is stimulating applied research in water-based technologies'.
Eckert said that new centre will help industry meet those challenges.
The laboratory will have facilities for 'analytical work, formulation development and synthesis of novel products', Eckert said, adding that these will have 'a high degree of technical differentiation'.
